This time of year is filled with plans for the holidays, but even with events right around the corner, New York Won’t Back Down when it comes to marriage equality.  Last night nine volunteers meet again in midtown Manhattan to phone bank for marriage equality, and this group shows no sign of stopping until there is a vote.  Broadway Impact and our host Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids have partnered with HRC to make sure that every New York State Senator hears from his or her constituents.  Meeting almost 6 times a week, this group has touch thousands of New York voters in the last five weeks, and volunteers like this and all across the state are the main reason that the Senate leadership recently announced there will be a vote on marriage equality this year.

The reason I am confident we will see marriage equality in New York is because of volunteers like the ones we had last night who made over 500 phone calls, and the team of Long Island volunteers I met with Wednesday night in Huntington. All across New York, HRC and our partners have worked tirelessly and against odds that no one would have imagined earlier this year.  Not only did our work secure the commitment from of our Senate leadership, but also our continued time and energy will ensure a win for marriage equality!

Even with the Senate leadership promising a vote, we still need to get on the phones to make sure the cry for marriage equality is not drowned out by the opposition. Our phone banks will continue in NYC and on Long Island, and if you want to volunteer please email me for details: Anthony.Hayes@HRC.org

We will see marriage equality in the state of New York, because we all know NEW YORK WON’T BACK DOWN!
