HRC's Sultan Shakir talks with the media after the bill introduction
It’s official — today DC Councilman David Catania introduced a bill that would allow same-sex couples to marry in the District while allowing religious organizations to make up their own minds about what relationships to recognize. The bill already has the support of ten of the thirteen Councilmembers. See our post from earlier today for more on the bill.
Hearings are expected within the next month followed by votes by the entire council. Mayor Adrian Fenty has pledged to sign marriage equality into law once the bill reaches his desk.
