WA-DP-approve-ref-71_logoOn the same day we released the Corporate Equality Index 2010, six Washington State employers issued a statement in support of the domestic partnership law.

Boeing (CEI 100%), Microsoft (CEI 100%), Nike (CEI 100%), Puget Sound Energy, RealNetworks and Vulcan issued a statement yesterday in support of Referendum 71 in Washington State, which would allow the state’s expanded same-sex domestic partnership law to stay on the books.

These six employers join a growing list of employers that have stood up for relationship recognition, most notably those businesses that opposed California’s Proposition 8 last year. Businesses that take public positions in favor of LGBT equality clearly understand that it takes more than their own non-discrimination policies and benefits to attract and retain a talented workforce – particularly when employees can move to another state to be treated equally under the law.

“We are a group of businesses who stand united together by the commonality of our companies’ core values, which respect and support employees with diverse backgrounds. We are committed to supporting our employees and our customers and to ensuring the health of our communities. Accordingly, we support the campaign to Approve Referendum 71.” Read the entire statement

Referendum 71 will require voters to APPROVE the motion to preserve the state’s same-sex domestic partnership law and will appear on the ballot this November.
