postcarding Balloon festThis weekend, I had the pleasure of descending upon the Great Falls Balloon Festival in Lewiston/Auburn, Maine with a team of volunteers from the No on 1: Protect Maine Equality Campaign. Being that this is the largest festival of its kind in New England, I knew this would be  great opportunity to talk to voters and ask them to vote NO on question 1 in November.

I was overwhelmed at the response. As we walked through the crowd, we asked everyone we saw “Do you support marriage for same-sex couples?”  By the end of the weekend, we had identified hundreds of new supporters and educated them about the November ballot referendum. Even some of the undecided voters, who did not sign our pledge cards, were very interested in discussing the issues and assured us that they would visit our website for more information.

postcard BF aaron and emilyThis is how we are going to win in Maine in November — by having conversations, voter by voter, and talking about why marriage equality is important.

As we continue our efforts, with only 70 days left, I ask you to please make an investment in this campaign. I have been here on behalf of HRC since January, working very hard to get this bill passed. We cannot wake up on November 4th and see that there was one more dollar we could have given or hour we could have committed.

Go to http://action.protectmaineequality.org/signUp.jsp?key=2342 to sign up to volunteer.  Go to www.hrc.org/MainePAC to invest financially.  There is no time to lose! I’ll keep you posted!
