If you live in DC, tell us if you and your same-sex spouse/partner want to share your story!
The Washington Blade ran a great story today (we’re proud that it features former HRC law fellow Julie Verratti and her spouse Emily) describing part of the campaign to bring marriage to D.C. Right now, same-sex couples who marry outside the District have their relationships recognized in D.C., but same-sex couples still can’t marry in the District itself. We’re working with D.C. for Marriage and other groups to help change that—and you can help. As Michael Crawford of D.C. for Marriage puts it, a key part of bringing marriage to D.C. depends on personal storytelling by same-sex couples who are married, or hoping to marry. D.C. for Marriage is doing great work in highlighting these stories and demonstrating that giving all couples in D.C. the opportunity to marry is simply the right thing to do.
If you and your same-sex spouse or partner (1) live in D.C. (2) are in a committed relationship and (3) are willing to speak to the media or at a public event, please let us know by sending an email to chris.edelson@hrc.org. We’ll connect you with D.C. for Marriage. We’re looking for a diverse range of couples who can tell their stories to explain why marriage matters to them, and why it’s time to let all loving, committed couples marry in the District.
