The Las Vegas Sun on Friday outlined the path that resulted in a fantastic victory last month for LGBT Nevadans. They say it came down to three critical elements:
Legislators and lobbyists say the outcome provides lessons in how to win at the Nevada Legislature:
Get gaming on board.
Have the good fortune to face tone-deaf opposition.
Do the nuts-and-bolts groundwork.
It’s a great reminder that building a good coalition and organizing the grassroots (the story mentions the state’s “Equality Days” lobbying campaign) can change not just hearts and minds, but also laws .
