Not Giving Up on Marriage Equality in New York

NY_phonebanking-HQ1While the leadership situation works itself out in Albany, here at HRC we’re continuing to mobilize our members and voters across the state. Last night we made calls into a priority district just outside of New York City. Despite the district’s reputed conservative leaning, our callers were generally very successful in reaching and engaging supporters of marriage equality. We made over 600 calls to district voters and identified dozens of fair-minded New Yorkers who committed to making a call into their state Senator’s office.

HRC currently has 14 staffers and consultants on the ground in New York. We’re committed to continuing our push for equal marriage rights in the Empire State. Our work, including our phone banks, won’t stop until all loving, committed couples have the rights and responsibilities of marriage under New York state law.

If you’re in the DC area, join us next week for another evening of food, phoning, and fun. On Wednesday, June 24th we’ll meet from 6-9pm at our HRC headquarters, located at 1640 Rhode Island Ave. NW. To RSVP, or if you have questions, feel free to contact Katie Taylor at katie.taylor@hrc.org.  For other volunteer opportunities across New York, visit our NY marriage page.
