President Obama will announce his pick for the U.S. Supreme court to replace retiring Justice David Souter. Reports are that the President has chosen Judge Sonya Sotomayor, the first Latina ever nominated to SCOTUS. Born in 1954 in the Bronx, N.Y. Nominated as a federal judge by President George H.W. Bush on November 27, 1991, and confirmed by the Senate on August 11, 1992. Nominated by President Bill Clinton to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on June 25, 1997, and confirmed by the Senate on October 2, 1998. Graduated from Yale Law School in 1979. Worked as an assistant district attorney at the New York County District Attorney’s Office from 1979-1984. Worked in private practice in New York City from 1984-1992.
