PA marriage amendment to be reintroduced

Pennsylvania state Sen. John Eichelberger seems to have missed the memo that the country is moving toward marriage equality and not away from it.  He’s planning on introducing an amendment to the state constitution to deny the rights of marriage to same-sex couples. (H/T Sue @ Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents)

Democrats won control of the House in 2006 with a margin of 102-101 and gained two more votes in 2008, making the balance 104-99. The state Senate remains solidly in Republican control 30-20.  While the House has defeated marriage amendments in the past and is like to do so again, the amendment will take away focus from much needed nondiscrimination laws and hate crime protections.
