Iowa State Senate Assistant Majority Leader Staci Appel after meeting with HRC National Field Director Marty Rouse

As activists and advocates continue to celebrate and hold on to the victory for marriage equality in Iowa, Senator Staci Appel, Democrat from Ackworth, met with HRC staff this week.  She thanked HRC for supporting fair-minded candidates last year and spoke with pride of the progress her state has made on many progressive issues, including equality for all.  She was particularly proud of Governor Chet Culver and Senate Leader Mike Gronstal.

Also of note, earlier this year, Senator Appel was appointed  the Iowa State Director of the Women Legislators’ Lobby (WiLL), a national non-partisan network of progressive female elected officials.
