Good morning. Today we’re poised to witness Vermont write a new chapter in American history–again. Be sure to check out HRC National Field Director Marty Rouse’supdates from Montpelier yesterday. Just before midnight, he wrote: ”State Senate convenes at 9 am to consider override vote. They have votes to spare. It is all about the House. They convene at 10am.”
Today’s the day. We should know this morning if Vermont – the groundbreaking state to first legalize civil unions in 2000 – will join Massachusetts, Connecticut and Iowa in allowing gay and lesbian couples to legally marry.
If the legislature overrides Gov. Douglas’ veto, Vermont will become the first state to legislatively provide marriage equality.
