GOOD NEWS: Last night the Hawaii House of Representatives voted 33-17 to pass legislation to grant civil unions for gay and lesbian couples.

The bill now moves to the state senate.

In 1998, Hawaii voters approved a constitutional amendment to define marriage as between one man and one woman.  If the legislation passes the Senate and is enacted into law, couples who enter into a civil union will not receive any rights or benefits under federal law.
