<6a00df3520cecd8833010536c306a3970b-200wi Today, the Senate will also hold a hearing on the confirmation of President-Elect Obama’s designee for Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan (pictured).  The Secretary of Education has the ability to implement regulations to promote fair and science-based curricula in our nation’s schools.

As Superintendent of Chicago’s public schools, Arne Duncan was a steadfast supporter of LGBT students. One role that he will be able to play as Secretary of Education will be to ensure that religious exemptions to accreditation standards to not violate nondiscrimination policies or promote curricula not based in sound science.

The hearing began at 10:00 a.m. EST this morning. Watch the live webcast Duncan's confirmation hearing before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions here.
