Arizona state representative and GLBT activist Kyrsten Sinema recognized as influential progressive leader
May 07, 2008

Arizona State Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (pictured), who is also a member of HRC’s Phoenix steering committee, has been honored and recognized as a 21st Century Leader in Action. This initiative highlights achievements by progressive leaders. Maryland State Sen. Jamie Raskin, a leader in the fight for marriage equality, and Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner and Congressman Keith Ellison (D) were also honored.
Sinema has been a leader in the fight for equality in Arizona. In 2006, she led efforts to defeat a marriage amendment on the Arizona ballot (Arizona is the only state to defeat such a measure at the polls). This year, she is working in the legislature to keep another proposed marriage amendment off the ballot in November.
Congratulations to Rep. Sinema and the other honorees.
