Take Action: Send a Tax Day message to Congress

7daysgraphic_4 As if filing your taxes wasn’t painful enough.

For many, Tax Day is a bitter reminder that our federal laws don’t protect GLBT people and their loved ones, as same-sex couples deal with higher taxes on health care, payment for Social Security benefits their loved ones may never receive, and a host of other financial penalties.

Today also marks the end of HRC’s wildly successful "7 Days to a Better Financial You" campaign, where we’ve provided expert advice and resources for the GLBT community and gotten coverage in The Associated Press/CNNMoney.com, U.S. News & World Report, Queercents.com (here and here) and Pam’s House Blend.

As part of the campaign, we’re pushing Congress to make the system fairer by tackling issues like family and medical leave, tax penalties for health insurance beneficiaries, and domestic partner benefits for Federal employees.

Take a moment to send a message to Congress demanding they pass "Family Matters" legislation – to give same-sex families the rights and benefits that most people take for granted. Take action now >>

GLBT people aren’t asking for the moon. We’re asking for basic protections that are the foundation of a productive, happy life – for equality on Tax Day and throughout the year.
