HRC's 'Buying for Equality' guide goes mobile

December 21, 2007
Chris Johnson

PhoneJust in time for last-minute Holiday shopping, HRC introduced this week our latest handy tool to help shoppers better direct their dollars to companies that have earned high marks for their support of the GLBT community.  Busy shoppers can now determine which companies support equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans before plunking down their cash or plastic by first checking in with HRC's famous “Buying for Equality” guide – using their cell phones.

By texting ‘SHOP’ to 30644 from any cell phone, individuals can quickly find out a company's score on HRC's Corporate Equality Index (CEI), our annual corporate report card, before proceeding to the checkout counter.

Pretty snazzy, right?

This is just another great way to help you, Dear Daily Activist, continue the important work of fighting for equality in your everyday decisions. And, not to mention, it's another way for you to nonchalantly impress your friends with just how cool and on the cutting edge of technology you are...and who doesn't love that?!

The mobile version of the “Buying for Equality” guide launches on the heels of the HRC Mobile Action Network.  By texting the word ‘HRC’ to 30644 from any cell phone, supporters can join the HRC Mobile Action Network and immediately begin receiving important news and issue alerts. Supporters can also sign-up at: http://www.hrcactioncenter.org/actioncenter/txtsignup.html.
